A wonder strike by Carshalton Athletic midfielder Ryan Healy rescued a point on Saturday.

The 17-year-old marked only his fourth senior appearance with a stunning 85th minute volley from 30 yards as the Robins twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against Walton Casuals.

The draw was Carshalton’s fifth in six games however, and the club has slipped from play-off hopefuls to sit 12th in Ryman Division One South.

But boss Chris McGinn believes Carshalton were full value for all three points despite playing the last 35 minutes with only 10 men.

“I thought we were unlucky not to come away with a win by the end of the game,” said McGinn.

“They edged it in the first half, but we coped with the sending off and ended up controlling the game, causing them a lot of problems.”

Carshalton were still trailing by Casuals captain Scott Day’s first-half opener when defender Jake Downs was dismissed on 55 minutes following a clash with the same player.

Midfielder Jordan Higgs drew the Robins level on the hour with a controlled left-foot volley, but the hosts restored their lead against the run of play with 15 minutes to go.

But Healy was introduced from the bench and rewarded his manager's confidence with his late strike, plus there was still time for defender Adam Thompson to bundle home an added time free kick which was then chalked off by the officials as he celebrated.

“Ryan hit a similar goal in training last Thursday and to see such a young player perform well for the senior team is pleasing,” added McGinn.

“But all the players showed a positive inner belief and we caused them a lot of problems in the second half. If we can keep up that level of work rate and organisation, then we’ll start to win games, no doubt.”

The only major blot on Carshalton’s day was the first half loss of striker Kingsley Aikhionbare, who was taken to hospital with a suspected torn hamstring.

Carshalton Athletic’s next game is at home against Hythe Town on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
