Carshalton Athletic bounced back from losing their recent unbeaten run to earn a 1-1 draw against Ryman Division One South leaders Folkestone Invicta on Saturday.

Manager Matt Howard and his charges failed to record a seventh consecutive win at Dorking Wanderers last Tuesday (losing 1-0), but he felt his team's response against the league leaders warranted more than the point eventually earned.

But it leaves Carshalton in sixth place and just seven points behind Folkestone before next weekend's round of games.

"We battered Folkestone from start to finish but only managed to score one goal," Howard said, "so I'm glad we didn't lose, but I'm not completely satisfied with the end result."

Carshalton's top scorer Dan Summers hit the crossbar either side of Folkestone taking an undeserved lead on 32 minutes, while visiting keeper Tim Roberts made several good saves before bundling Tommy Bradford over in his own area with just seven minutes to go.

"We've missed so many penalties this season, including one at Dorking, that I couldn't watch Billy Marshall take it," added Howard.

"It really wouldn't of reflected our performance if he had missed and Folkestone nicked the game 1-0, we'd created enough chances to win two games of football in all honesty."

Carshalton travel to Ryman Premier League outfit Leatherhead for a second round Surrey Senior Cup tie on Wednesday (kick-off 7.45pm).
