Former Weybridge Cricket Club player Tom Curran enjoyed a memorable end to September.

The 20-year-old, who took 105 wickets in all formats for Surrey to be the country’s leading wicket taker, was named the Professional Cricketer’s Association’s young player of the year last week.

Curran was also named in the England Performance Programme for training camps in South Africa and the UAE this winter after initially being overlooked.

He claimed six awards at Surrey’s end of season dinner – including the players’ player of the year gong - having helped  Oval-based club claim the LV= County Championship Division Two title and reach the final of the Royal London One Day Cup.

“At the start of the season I was just trying to do the simple things well and then I started taking a few wickets,” he said.

“As long as the summer is for us cricketers, it’s actually gone really quickly and a bit surreal."
