London Fire Brigade are currently tackling a huge fire at a waste recycling centre in Kingston.

The fire broke out in Chapel Mill Road just before 4.50am today (December 21).

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are still at the scene of the blaze.

Around 50 tonnes of household waste are alight which has created a large amount of smoke.

Residents are being advised by the brigade to keep their doors and windows closed.

Fire crews from Surbiton and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

The cause of the blaze is not known at this stage.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are tackling a fire in a waste recycling centre on Chapel Mill Road in Kingston Upon Thames.

“Around 50 tonnes of household waste is alight, creating a large amount of smoke.

“Local residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed.

“The Brigade was called at 0452.

“Fire crews from Surbiton are surrounding fire stations are at the scene. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”
