A Croydon coffee shop is extending its opening hours and serving up craft beers as it aims to become the town’s new destination for after-work drinks.

Independent café Smoothbean, which has been in Dingwall Road near East Croydon station for two years, now opens until 8.30pm on Thursday.

It serves continental, Australian and British craft beers, wines and cider and have a new Evenings @ Smoothbean food menu.

Pauline Hennessy, who runs the café with husband John, said: “We have a beautiful light space at Smoothbean and we think people will really appreciate enjoying a quality beer or glass of wine as the weekend approaches.”

To celebrate the launch of evenings at Smoothbean, jazz musician Robert Wilson and the band InFusion will perform tonight and tomorrow (June 23 and 24) accompanied by a 1948 customised Mercury Pick-Up truck on display approved and signed by the late George Barris, who designed the Batmobile and James Dean’s car in Rebel Without a Cause.
