A-level results day is known as a time of anxiety and stress, but Merton’s teenagers had plenty of reason to be jumping for joy yesterday as students across the borough scooped top marks.

Raynes Park High School registered their best ever A-level results, with students passing 99 per cent of all exams.

78 per cent of grades were between an A* and a C, with 21 per cent of these coming in at A* or *.

BTEC students were also celebrating in Raynes Park, with 88 per cent of results coming in at either Distinction * or Distinction.

Head teacher Mrs Heard said: “We are very proud of our students’ achievements. These are excellent results across the board, for which students have worked extremely hard.

The combined RR6 sixth form – made up of Rutlish School and Ricards Lodge High School – also achieved their best ever results yesterday, with over 30 per cent of results coming in at A*, A or Distinction  *.

Assistant head teacher, Sarah Sawyerr, said; “Initial feedback indicates all students applying for university places have been successful.

“To all our students who are leaving us for university, the world of work or apprenticeships, we wish them every success.”

Wimbledon High School were also celebrating, after receiving their highest results in five years.

66 per cent of grades at the school came in as A* or A, with an impressive 45 per cent of students achieving all A* or A grades.

99 per cent of all results were between A* and C, with 91 per cent of these being between A* and B.

Head teacher Jane Lunnon said: “I’m delighted for our students. They have worked so hard for this, showing utter commitment to their studies and they have been wonderfully inspired and supported by their teachers.”

The joint sixth form of Ursuline High School and Wimbledon College managed to beat last year’s excellent results, with 35 per cent of students receiving an A* or A grade – up on five per cent last year.

90 per cent of their students received between an A* and a C, another five per cent increase, while an impressive 68 per cent of results were between an A* and a B in a rise of eight per cent on 2015’s results.

Head teacher of Ursuline High School, Julia Waters, said: “Staff and students have worked incredibly hard. We have been focussing on marginal gains, doing everything the best we can do.

“We are delighted the hard work has paid off and the girls can realise their dreams and aspirations.”

Head teacher of Wimbledon College, Adrian Laing, said: “We are very happy, very pleased with the boys. The vast majority of boys have got offers at universities including Oxford and Cambridge – very few are having to wait on clearing.

“The most important thing for us is they can go on to do what they want to do.”

Kings College Wimbledon were also celebrating yesterday morning, after 94 per cent of results fell into the A* to B bracket. A staggering 30 per cent of grades were an A*, with 20 per cent of pupils achieving at least three A*’s overall.

Harris Academy Merton received 65 per cent of results in the A* to C bracket, including 32.2 per cent between A* and B and 12 per cent being either A* or A.

Principal of Harris Academy Merton, Aisha Samad, said: “We have had some incredible A-level successes this year.

“I look forward to following the progress of all Year 13s leaving us today. We are very proud of them.”

South Thames College were also celebrating yesterday after 99 per cent of A-levels were passed, an increase of eight per cent on last year, while St Mark’s Academy in Mitcham achieved their best ever BTEC results.

Merton Council’s cabinet member for education, Councillor Caroline Cooper-Marbiah, said: “I’m so happy for our young people for getting such good results.

“Merton’s schools are some of the most improved in the country, and parents should be proud of their children and our fantastic local schools.”
